East Tamaki Waste Treatment Site Granted Resource Consent
In a vote of confidence from Auckland Regional Council Nuplex Industries’ East Tamaki waste management facility has received resource consent for air discharges.
Nuplex Managing Director John Hirst says Nuplex remains committed to meeting and exceeding regulatory and environmental responsibilities.
Nuplex has spent in excess of $1 million on obtaining resource consents and almost $400,000 on improving and upgrading facilities at the East Tamaki site over the last three years.
The site’s resource consent contains fifty major conditions which cascade into tailored site specific requirements.
“The East Tamaki site has been one of Auckland’s most trusted hazardous waste sites for customers for over 40 years and plays a vital role in protecting the greater environment from inappropriate disposal of waste,” he says.
Last year the site achieved PRINCE accreditation from the New Zealand Chemical Industry Council (NZIC – www.nzic.co.nz) for achieving high regulatory and environmental standards. The accreditation award was achieved following a comprehensive assessment of the facility and operations (including contractors) by highly qualified and experienced assessors over a period of months.
