There's No Place In The World Like Sydney

Tourism New South Wales today unveiled Sydney's first-ever television advertising and image campaign which includes a new television commercial which will be broadcast across New Zealand from tonight and reach some one million people.

The commercial features 24 hours in the life of Sydney and has a striking world music-style soundtrack - Adiemus - composed the UK's Karl Jenkins and performed by the Sydney Symphony and the Sydney Children's Choir.

The Executive Director of Tourism New South Wales, Mr John O'Neill, said in Auckland today that he hoped the advertising would remind kiwis that Sydney is a multi-dimensional and ever-evolving world city experience.

"Our research revealed that many people have a view of Sydney which is limited by our icons," Mr O'Neill said. "This campaign promotes our great ocean beaches as well as our spectacular harbour, our shopping and food precincts and the nature, history, culture and pampering which you can experience when visiting Sydney."

Four New Zealand wholesalers will package airfare and ground products for Sydney to complement the campaign, including promotion through a full colour brochure on featuring the city's accommodation and attractions.

Mr O'Neill said he had been impressed by the Pure NZ advertising. "We hope our campaign is as well received in New Zealand as your campaign was in Australia."

He said lower airfares were stimulating a boost in two-way travel between New Zealand and NSW, of benefit to both tourism economies. More than 340,000 Kiwis visited NSW last year - up by 11 per cent on the previous year.

"We have also updated our website at www.sydneyaustralia.com/nz so interested New Zealanders can get more information."
