Mark Inglis Receives Award From Governor General

Mark Inglis, who lost both legs to frostbite when climbing Mt Cook, walks up to be invested by Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright at Government House in Wellington.

Inglis was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for being an outstanding role model and advocate for people with disabilities.

In the early 1990s, he won numerous medals and titles at international disabled skiing events.

He gained a silver medal in the 1 kilometre cycling pursuit at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, and climbed Mt Cook in 2002.

Mr Inglis has played a pivotal role in the research, design and development of prosthetics for amputees.
