Zaoui decision means Parliament needs to act
Progressive MP Matt Robson welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court that Ahmed Zaoui can be bailed to the Dominican Friary in Auckland.
“Ahmed Zaoui’s battle is not over, though. The Crown is appealing to the Supreme Court against the ruling that human rights must be considered when the Inspector-General of Security reviews the security risk certificate.
“Then the Inspector-General Justice Paul Neazor will review the secrets behind that certificate and rule if it will be upheld.
“Our job now as Members of Parliament is to ensure that we change the law so that it is certain that the rule of law applies to everyone in New Zealand.
“Never again should anyone be imprisoned for over two years without charge or trial,” said Matt Robson.
