Have you signed the petition yet Dr Smith?
United Future Leader Peter Dunne has called for National’s Nelson MP Dr Nick Smith to sign the daylight saving petition launched and sponsored by himself and Cr Mark Holmes.
“Dr Smith has apparently lodged a private member's bill to extend daylight saving; he is obviously unaware that the period of daylight saving is not set by legislation but rather by regulation through the Minister of Internal Affairs,” said Mr Dunne.
“A private member's bill is unnecessary if we can prove to the Minister and the rest of Cabinet that there is strong support for an extension. Without doubt a petition is the best way to do this.”
“My office has sent Dr Smith’s Nelson electorate office a petition form and, noting his obvious support for an extension to the daylight saving period, I expect that he will be a very enthusiastic signatory to it,” concluded Mr Dunne.
