Congrats to Labour

MANA Leader and MP for Te Tai Tokerau Hone Harawira

Monday 10th September

Congrats to Labour

“Congrats to Labour” says MANA Leader Hone Harawira. “It’s great to hear David Shearer support calls for our kids to receive healthy food in schools in order to raise educational outcomes”.

“Feed our Kids is a core MANA policy and I encourage all politicians to take a look at the private members bill that I lodged last week. The bill allows for all children in all decile 1 and 2 schools throughout the country to receive breakfast and lunch. Everybody knows that a kid with a full puku learns better and that the time has come for children in poverty to who without food to end”.

“People shouldn’t be fooled into thinking that our current Government is doing all they can to feed hungry kids. A piece of fruit each day won't keep child poverty away. The small number of programmes that do exist rely heavily upon the goodwill of charity. And as for people who believe that feeding children is a responsibility of the parents, why should our children suffer because some parents either don’t receive enough money to feed their kids or because a small minority make bad parenting choices?”

“I look forward to the support of Labour and other politicians when the bill is picked out of the ballot box”.
