Horan: Who will consent, build,
fund and develop 39,000 Auckland
houses?
Independent MP Brendan Horan is concerned that 39,000 new Auckland houses promised by the National Party over the next 3 years will not happen.
“Where is the training and recruitment of town planners to process 39,000 additional resource consents for housing?” he asked.
“Who are and where are, the developers, the builders and the tradespeople to build these houses?
“Where is the funding of billions of dollars for additional housing over the next three years? The cost of this build is bigger than Christchurch. Do the math!
“This Government has plucked a figure from thin air with no plan or infrastructure to deliver. Housing Minister Nick Smith is unaware of any training or recruitment of town planners to process additional building consents. This is dereliction of duty.
“39,000 houses in three years and tens of billions of dollars represents a tripling of current levels of building activity.
“Auckland Council currently processes about 3,400 resource consents for housing each year and are working at 100% capacity. Surely the first step is to train and recruit the people needed to process the consents,” said Brendan Horan.
