Peter Dunne is urging Wellington City Council to purchase
the Forest of Tane adjacent to Tawa to preserve the green
area behind the suburb.
“I support the call by the Friends of Tawa Bush and local councillors for the Council to purchase the block when it comes to sale, and to preserve it as a recreational amenity for the people of Tawa.
“I understand the concern that the land might be sold to developers for subdivision, and am not convinced that the topography of the area lends itself to subdivision without significant earthworks which would detract from the backdrop the forest currently provides to Tawa.
“I hope the Wellington City Council is able to intervene to purchase the land to preserve it for future generations, as a northern extension of the Town Belt,“ Mr Dunne says.
