Anderton taxes importers
Acting Minister of Customs Jim Anderton announced today in Parliament that a new tax on importers of $16.50 plus GST will be imposed on every shipment coming to New Zealand.
The Minister described this $15 million tax grab as a "reduction in subsidy." We can advise members that he kept a straight face throughout the announcement, which was one of a series made in the lead up to the annual conference of the Alliance Party.
The Importers Institute protests this latest attack by government on New Zealand businesses.
