November vehicle registrations down slightly

Vehicle registrations for November were down slightly from the same month last year, according to figures released by the Land Transport Safety Authority.

There were 22,303 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this November, compared with 22,555 in November 2001 - a decrease of 1.1 percent.

Total first-time car registrations were down 2.7 percent, from 17,199 in November 2001 to 16,731 last month.

New car registrations were down 3.1 percent from 5,575 to 5,404 while used import registrations fell 2.6 percent, from 11,624 to 11,327.

The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Holden with 16.4 percent, ahead of Toyota with 15.7 percent and Ford with 15.1 percent.

Toyota retains the overall market share lead for new cars registered in the year to date with 17.8 percent, ahead of Holden with 15.9 percent and Ford with 15.2 percent.

The three most popular new car models for the month were the Ford Falcon, Holden Commodore and Honda Jazz.

Truck registrations were up 16.7 percent, from 2,125 in November 2001 to 2,480 this year. Trailer registrations were down 2.9 percent, from 1,952 to 1,896 while motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) were up by one, from 395 to 396.

Tractor registrations fell from 359 to 316, while bus registrations increased from 83 to 90.
