Strengthen Relationships Strengthen Marriage

Prepare Enrich NZ stepped into the Marriage debate by supporting and commending the Private Members Marriage Amendment Bill to be debated in Parliament on July 27.

Prepare Enrich is a major provider of marriage education programmes designed both to prepare couples for marriage and to enrich and strengthen existing marriages .A national network of 1200 trained users offer and deliver these programmes .

Max Palmer the National Director said marriage as we know it between a man and a women must be protected by law and beyond the reach of attempts to devalue such nation building relationships.

Healthy families and thus a healthy nation will come from healthy marriage relationships in which the unique union of a man and a woman will contribute to societal and relational strength and wellbeing .

The Marriage Amendment Bill does three main things:

1. It specifies that a marriage can only be between one man and one woman, and provides that ‘marriage’ between people of the same sex is prohibited.

2. It specifies that same-sex ‘marriages’ registered in foreign countries are not recognised as marriages in New Zealand.

3. It amends the Bill of Rights Act 1990 to ensure that measures intended to promote or advance marriage (for example pre-marriage counselling) are not considered discriminatory

We ask every elected member of the House carefully consider this legislation and to pass it into law both for this and future generations
