Auckland Bus Drivers Send a Message to Infratil
MEDIA RELEASE
September 30, 2008
Auckland bus drivers are warning they will not stand idly by while their Wellington counterparts fight for a decent wage.
The Auckland Bus Drivers Council says that if pay talks between Wellington bus drivers and Infratil later this week lead to further industrial action Auckland union members will meet immediately to organise industrial and financial support.
Spokesperson Karl Andersen says Wellington bus drivers are grossly underpaid and Infratil could well afford to do something about it.
“Bus patronage is rising and the company is doing well. There is no reasonable explanation or excuse for the way the Wellington drivers are being treated”.
The Auckland Bus Drivers Council is comprised of delegates from Infratil (NZ Bus), Howick and Eastern Buses, Birkenhead Transport, Ritchies Coachlines, Waiheke Bus Company, Urban Express, Airbus and Murphy Buses.
