NZ Herald misreports cost of integrated ticketing
NZ Herald continues to misreport cost of integrated ticketing
10 February 2009
The cost of integrated ticketing for the Auckland region’s public transport system is significantly less than the NZ Herald keeps reporting, ARC Chairman Mike Lee said today.
“Integrated ticketing will not cost the $170 million that the NZ Herald keeps publishing.
“Without yet being presented with the results of the international tender process, I can say that the capital cost is likely to be between $60 million to $80 million.
“Quite frankly it is beyond me why the NZ Herald irresponsibly chooses to repeat inaccurate information about the cost of the initiative.
“I also find it ironic that the NZ Herald is running this line when the ARC is yet to consider the Auckland Regional Transport Authority’s (ARTA) proposal.
“We will do that at the finish of the tender, which is expected to be completed by the end of this month.”
