Media update regarding Mark Taylor
10am Friday 13 February 2009
The New Zealand Honorary Consul has been liaising with the Pakistan Military Command for South Waziristan Province over the arrest of Mark Taylor.
The Honorary Consul has been advised that Mr Taylor had a good nights sleep and is safe and well. He will remain in detention for further questioning.
We continue to seek updates from the relevant local authorities to check on Mr Taylor's welfare, to ensure he has access to consular assistance, and to obtain permission to speak directly to him.
No further information can be released at this stage.
The British High Commission in Pakistan is also making enquiries on our behalf.
The Ministry will continue to keep Mr Taylor's next of kin updated - please note they wish to make no comment to the media.
