The Waikato-Tainui tribe has confirmed that it is not investing in the Maori Television bid for television broadcast rights to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Waikato-Tainui chairman, Tukoroirangi Morgan, said he personally applauded MTS for its bid, but it did not meet the investment criteria for the tribe.
“The tribe focuses on investments which can meet the cultural, social and economic needs of our people,” Mr Morgan said.
“We have to be prudent about what we invest in to meet those criteria.
“I think the MTS bid is a wonderful idea but, it’s not for us,” he said.
