Tenby Powell Announces Candidacy for Waitemata

Tenby Powell Announces Candidacy for Waitemata & Gulf Ward

Tenby Powell, one of the country’s leading businessmen today announced that he is standing as an Independent for the office of Councillor for the Waitemata & Gulf Ward at the upcoming local government elections.

“Increasingly, cities compete with cities, and I am passionate about being involved in Auckland becoming one of the world’s greatest cities and one that competes well on the international stage,” said Tenby Powell.

“The new Auckland Council will need to be a strong, unified and broadly qualified team. This Council will face unprecedented challenges in leading this great city,” said Mr Powell, who added that “this requires leadership and managerial skills, not just political skills, in order to deliver a new vision for Auckland and New Zealand.”

“As an Aucklander, I don’t believe that the creation of a super city administration is a silver bullet for the issues that Auckland faces, but at last the Council will now have an opportunity to build closer relationships with a wide range of communities across greater Auckland in order to lead the city forward,” said Mr Powell.

I am putting my name forward as I believe that I can bring to the new council sound business judgement, and a proven ability to build successful teams that are united to achieve a greater goal.

“The creation of the Auckland super city cannot afford to fail. If we fail Auckland, we fail New Zealand. We must deliver to Aucklanders’ the cost, social services and infrastructure benefits that have been promised with the formation of a single City. I’m ambitious for Auckland and want to play an instrumental role as an independent Councillor for the Waitemata and Gulf Ward to ensue this stunning city achieves the world acclaim it deserves”.
