MPs tell New Zealand why they love human rights
Labour MP Phil Twyford loves human rights because °they give value to our existence, and acknowledge that at a fundamental level, we're all equal
Mr Twyford joins other New Zealand MPs and celebrities who have declared their love for human rights in support of Amnesty International’s annual appeal, Freedom Week, 2-8 August.
To tie in with the appeal’s theme, Human Rights Amnesty International asked all New Zealand Members of Parliament to say in no more than 25 words what they have done, or will do, to advance human rights.
In my role as an MP I work overtly and also behind the scenes to promote, enhance, and retain human rights here and overseas, said National MP Chester Borrows in his response to the organisation.
¡°It’s no secret that we love human rights here at Amnesty, and it’s fantastic that our MPs are wearing their hearts on their sleeves and getting behind our campaign to show the love for human rights,¡± says Mo Farrell, Amnesty’s Freedom Week Co-ordinator.
¡°We’re calling on all New Zealanders - from all walks of life - to stand up with us and say they love human rights too, by digging deep and donating to Amnesty either directly to one of our volunteers collecting on the streets or via our website, www.amnesty.org.nz, adds Farrell.
Kiwi celebs including Tiki Taane, Te Radar, Hollie Smith, Oscar Kightley and Peter Gordon have also shown their love by appearing in a series of posters to help promote Freedom Week and raise awareness about Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand.

Hundreds of volunteers will be out on the streets across the country on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th August, collecting donations for Freedom Week.
