Voters for Change welcome MMP review.
13 February 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Voters for Change, formally Vote for Change, today welcomed the Electoral Commission’s launch of its website dedicated to the review of MMP.
“It is clear that our current voting system isn’t perfect and it is important that there is a broad discussion on how we can best improve MMP” says Voters for Change Spokesperson Jordan Williams.
Voters for Change is likely to push for the removal of the one-seat ‘Epsom’ rule and a change to the 5% party vote threshold.
“Interested New Zealanders should go to the Commission’s website, participate in this important process and submit their views.”
“Although the review is independent, ultimately it will be up to the politicians to decide what, if any, changes are made to MMP. Only with enough public participation and pressure will the politicians be forced to make sensible changes.”
The Commission’s website is www.mmpreview.org.nz
