Two days to stop the sell of state assets

2 days to stop the sell of state assets

Tomorrow, John Key is planning to ram controversial asset sale legislation through parliament -- against the advice of economists. But we can create a massive public outcry to stop the sale of our key services, and tell John Key that our country is not for sale.

The partial privatisation of Mighty River Power, Genesis, Meridian, and Solid Energy would be a bad deal for New Zealand. Over 75 per cent of people polled oppose the plan, and thousands of people have protested, so John Key is now trying to rush this legislation through parliament. But a huge wave of public opposition now can stymie this plan and stop MPs from passing the bill.

We only have two days to tell our politicians to stop the sell out. Sign the petition now and share it widely. If 25,000 of us sign it will be delivered to John Key with a giant "Aotearoa: Not For Sale" price tag.

The partial privatisation of four top-earning energy companies would reduce public oversight and control over the energy we all rely on for our survival. It would make it harder to minimise the environmental impact of the power we produce and ensure that pricing stays at affordable levels.

An independent report has found that our economy would be permanently worse off if these asset sales went ahead -- both our long-term debt levels and our national wealth. Right now our economy is in an upward trend, and selling profitable assets in this positive climate could cripple our economy.

Now is the moment to make it clear to John Key that going through with this proposal would mean losing the support of the people -- and the next election. Tell John Key to put the responsible economic management of our national economy before his own political ideologies. Sign the petition now: http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Oppose_NZ_Asset_Sales/?bpBWfab&v=15125

The Prime Minister is losing his grip on power. The latest polls show his popularity is sliding and that an opposition movement is growing. Together we can stop the government from railroading democracy, and take a step to ensure our country's future is decided by the will of the New Zealand people, to benefit everyone.
