The Conservative Party: the promising “also ran”

In the 2011 General Election the Conservative party received many more list votes than did ACT, Mana or United Future, but they are not represented in the present Parliament because, unlike those parties, it failed to win an electorate seat.

Who are they? What do they -- quite literally -- stand for? Are they a possible replacement for the embattled ACT party?
