Change the NZ Flag welcomes preliminary referendum result
11 December 2015
"Change the NZ Flag welcomes the preliminary referendum result announced this evening" said Lewis Holden, campaign chair of Change the NZ Flag.
The Electoral Commission has recorded 48% turn out of voters, ahead of the usual turn out for postal elections and referendums. 9.7% of the ballots were "informals".
"The number of informal votes was thankfully lower than we expected. The campaigns for New Zealanders to waste their votes have failed" added Mr Holden.
"Change the NZ Flag will campaign for the winning design to be adopted as our national flag through to the second referendum in March next year" concluded Mr Holden.
