Victims Advocacy Group delighted by jail sentence

Press Release: Victims Advocacy Group delighted by multiple fraudsters jail sentence

A jail sentence imposed against a multiple fraudster with over 40 convictions has delighted the victims advocacy group who were all victims of the offender to the tune of nearly $3.5 million dollars over a 32 year period.

Grant Norman King was sentenced to 18 months jail for breaching the terms of his bankruptcy by running a business whilst a bankrupt.

The charges were laid by the Ministry of Business Innovation, and Employment, and were the second group of charges laid by the MBIE following a similar successful prosecution of Grant King in 2012 for identical offences.

Convenor of the www.grantnormanking.com victim advocacy group Steve Taylor, who was a fraud victim of Grant King in 2011, said that watching Grant King being led away to jail provided some long-overdue sense of justice for the 71 victims who had come forward since the website went live in 2011.

“Grant King has fraudulently taken amounts from members of our group of anywhere between $500.00 and $1,000,000, and he has done so over an extended period of time – it is certainly gratifying to see that Mr King won’t be able to create any more victims whilst incarcerated”.

“Our victim’s advocacy group was initially very disappointed back in 2011 when the Fair Go programme first approached us, and then refused to publish our story.

"This decision by Fair Go, in our opinion, contributed to more victims being defrauded, including the latest corporate victim, who stands to lose around $300,000 as a result of Mr Kings most recent offending which has led to Mr King being put into jail”.

“We have instead spearheaded our own consumer advocacy campaign, and we are very grateful to the media organisations that have supported us along the way in this campaign, which has positively contributed to the outcome we see in Mr Kings jail sentence” said Mr Taylor.
