Counsellor & NZ Herald reach agreement on defamation claim
Press Release: A statement from Steve Taylor, Director, 24-7 Ltd
On 20/9/16, the NZ Herald published an article in which a number of inaccurate claims were made pertaining to the nature of my relationship with a key applicant witness in the Colin Craig / Jordan Williams defamation trial, Rachel MacGregor, and of some alleged actions illegitimately assigned to me, in the article.
On 21/9/16, I advised the NZ Herald that I considered these claims to be defamatory, and that I would be seeking legal advice on same.
On 22/9/16, I was contacted by Bell Gully, legal counsel for the NZ Herald, who advised me that the NZ Herald was protected by qualified privilege, regardless of the inaccuracy of the above claims against me that had been published in the article, and thus the NZ Herald would be fully protected from a claim of defamation, a position that I was not in agreement with.
On 23/9/16, the NZ Herald and 24-7 Ltd reached a resolution to settle this matter, the details of which are private and confidential to the parties concerned.
There will be no further comment on this issue from 24-7 Ltd.
