Comprehensive Sex Education – A Failure

Comprehensive Sex Education – A Failure

MEDIA RELEASE DECEMBER 15, 2016

The Internationally renowned Cochrane review of school-based interventions on sex education was released last week. The review combined peer reviewed data from 55,000 young people from around the world including Europe, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa. The review found that sex education programmes don’t work, do not reduce teenage pregnancies and do not reduce STIs.

This is the first review and meta-analysis featuring measurable biological outcomes. The current sexual health strategy for reducing teenage pregnancies is based on three false assumptions first, that contraception is safe, and secondly that youth will use it, and thirdly that abstinence is impossible. Previous studies have produced different results because they were dependent on young people reporting on their behaviours, which is notoriously prone to report bias.

Will the government now replace the failed comprehensive sex education programme with a programme that promotes chastity?

In New Zealand we subject our children to a Family Planning comprehensive sexuality programme that is value free, as there is no right or wrong. It is all about choice with young people encouraged to have sex when they believe they are ready and with whom the wish. Family Planning encourages young people to engage in sexual activity, it is contrary to Family Planning’s philosophy to encourage young people to be chaste and delay having intercourse until they are married.

Parents should be aware that Family Planning is in the business of selling sex, it is in their interest to encourage young people to be promiscuous and to obtain contraceptives by visiting Family Planning. Parents should protect their children by ensuring that Family Planning sex education is kept out of their schools and that Family Planning staff are refused entry to their schools.

The Association degrades our sexuality by promoting promiscuity and sexual perversions such as masturbation, oral sex and anal sex. The Association shamelessly sells sex toys, vibrators and oral dams. All of this information is freely available on Family Planning’s website. It is time that the New Zealand government defunded Family Planning because of the damage it is doing to our community.
