DOC extends submission deadlines for park plan reviews
The Department of Conservation(DOC) has extended the public submission period for the draft Aoraki/Mount Cook and Westland Tai Poutini national park management plans.
The plans describe how the parks and their special values will be managed and take into account matters such as the impact of climate change and increased tourism.
Submissions will now close at 4pm on Monday 4 February 2019 rather than 9 November 2018.
Wayne Costello, South Westland Operations Manager says DOC has had requests from the tourism and aviation industries for more time to consider the issues raised within the plans. “We recognise the complexity of the draft plans and the need to allow everyone the time to provide their considered feedback.”
The draft plans can be viewed and downloaded online, along with information about making a submission at www.doc.govt.nz/westland-review and www.doc.govt.nz/aoraki-mt-cook-plan-review.
