Have Your Say On The Protocol To Amend The Agreement Between New Zealand And Singapore On A Closer Economic Partnership

The Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee has called for submissions on its international treaty examination of the Protocol to Amend the Agreement between New Zealand and Singapore on a Closer Economic Partnership. The Protocol amends the Closer Economic Partnership to include the Agreement on Trade in Essential Supplies, which was signed on 4 May 2026. The examination includes the national interest analysis.

The Agreement on Trade in Essential Supplies seeks to protect the movement of essential goods between New Zealand and Singapore during crises and supply chain disruptions. Both countries commit to not impose export restrictions on an agreed list of essential goods, which includes food, fuels, medical equipment, and construction materials.
