Luxury home on the market for sale

Luxury home on the market for sale

A palatial property located in Auckland’s semi rural suburb of Woodhill has been placed on the market for sale.

The sprawling home built on 18 hectares is the "dream home" of owners Chris and Claire Abel, who built it 12 years ago. With stunning country vistas, privacy, and peace, yet proximity to the city, it has been everything they wanted in a home for themselves and their growing family.

Due to a lifestyle change for the family, the couple, who describe their home at 91 Twin Springs Drive as a "labour of love”, have reluctantly placed it on the market, asking for expressions of interest by 7 May. The property is being marketed by Bayleys North West salesperson Simon Spiller.

Mr Spiller said the location, scale, and presentation of the Balinese/Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home and manicured grounds set it apart.

"This is an exceptional home that offers a secluded, rural lifestyle yet is only 35 minutes from Auckland city. Every detail of the home has been well planned, crafted using the best quality materials and presented to the highest standard," he said.

The couple built the home after searching for several months to find the right parcel of land. Their search ended when they found the elevated site bordering the Woodhill Forest.

"It offered proximity to beaches and the countryside and was just the right amount of distance from the city to be accessible while offering local amenities and the rural lifestyle - peace, quiet and beautiful vistas," said Mrs Abel.

At 859sqm, the house is more than five times the size of an average New Zealand home - 149sqm. Featuring stones, wood, brick and high ceilings, it exudes comfort, tranquillity, generous spaces.

The house features eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, both formal and casual dining and lounge rooms, a generous kitchen with double ovens and dishwashers, commercial sized laundry, wine cellar, TV room and several offices/hobby rooms. Built-in cupboards and shelves provide ample storage throughout. Garaging attached to the house accommodates three cars, with the option of converting an adjacent children's play room back into an additional garage.

The house also has a number of more unusual features including a martial arts gymnasium/home theatre with surround sound, library with distinctive built-in shelves with a moveable ladder and a stunning paua shell wall. An elevator shaft, currently providing additional storage on both floors, would allow a new owner to future-proof the property by easily installing an elevator for effortless movement between the two storeys.

"For the security conscious, an extensive security system connects 40 cameras around the property to a number of monitors around the buildings. This system can be also accessed externally from anywhere in the world. A "glass" security door seals off the main bedroom quarters and which can only be accessed from the outside via a keypad, provides additional security when the family is sleeping,” said Mr Abel.

There is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy their own hobbies. Mrs Abel is a passionate sewer and has a number of projects underway in her sewing room, while Mr Abel, an electronics enthusiast, has a spacious room to pursue his interest - complete with built-in fridge.

The house is beautifully set in distinctive formal grounds that create an environment of tranquillity. Mrs Abel drew her inspiration for the landscaped garden from famed landscape designer Paul Bangay - creating "rooms" of distinct spaces that include box hedges, a fauna chess board and manicured lawns leading to a private conservatory within walled rose gardens.

Additional features that set this property apart are a heated pool, children's playground, established orchard with lemon, lime, mandarin, plum, peach and olive trees, terraced vegetable garden, irrigated nursery, and enough space to graze horses or deer. Stables and a number of sheds provide additional storage. A bore supplies water and an auto-start generator means the property is self sufficient in emergencies.

"The spacious house and surrounding grounds provides plenty of room for children to enjoy an enviable outdoor upbringing, to have animals and for the whole family to immerse themselves in their hobbies.”

There is an underfloor-heated dog kennel with internal and external house access.

Mr Spiller said the property would be ideally suited to family wanting plenty of space or for those looking for a rural lifestyle close to the city fringe.

"In addition, given its size and location, with appropriate consents the property could be utilised as a lodge, or wedding and event venue. The current owners have received numerous requests to do so but have not pursued these. This could be an option for a new owner to combine home and income."

"This stunning property is a lovely secret that stands out as having an exceptional level of quality, facilities and picturesque location."
