KILLER
DOG IMPOUNDED
An 8 year old pit bull terrier has
been impounded following a fatal attack on another dog
yesterday. An Animal Control Officer from Waitakere City
Council seized the animal and its owners are now being asked
to formally hand over ownership. It is envisaged that once
that occurs the 8 year old bitch will be put down. If the
owners refuse to hand over ownership the matter will then
proceed through the Courts.
Yesterday’s incident occurred in Withers Road, Glen Eden. The pit bull attacked and killed a small Jack Russell Terrier which was being walked by its owner, a pregnant woman. She was also knocked to the ground and bitten on the hand. The pit bull was not registered and was roaming free.
Waitakere City Council Animal Welfare Staff have praised passers-by who stopped to assist the woman by beating off the attacking dog until they arrived some 10 minutes later.
