Directors Sought for Manukau Water CCO

Media Release
15 August 2005

Directors Sought for Manukau Water CCO

The creation of the Manukau Water Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) takes another step forward this week with the advertising for directors.

Five directors are sought, one of which will be appointed as Chairperson of the board. The first task will be to gain an understanding of the business and to work with the Council to finalise details such as the financial structure of the company and the transfer value of the assets. They will also agree Manukau Water’s Statement of Intent (SOI) with the Council which will establish the CCO’s direction and performance targets.

“The Council’s primary objective in this process is to ensure we secure people who have the appropriate skills and experience to deliver the best value for the residents and businesses within Manukau”, said Grant Taylor, Council’s Strategic Development Director.

“In addition to having strong business skills we will expect at least some of the board’s members to have a good understanding of community aspirations, the local government setting, tangata whenua issues and an affinity for the environment.”

“While the successful applicants will assume responsibility for the running of Manukau Water on 1 July 2006, the Council will retain control over pricing policies. It is important for people to remember it is enshrined in legislation that Manukau Water can never be privatised, even as a CCO,” said Mr Taylor.

The closing date for applications is 29 August with appointments being confirmed at the Council meeting in October.
