LOOK OUT! Launch Day
The LOOK OUT! campaign launches on Friday 4 November with a fun-filled day of activities, challenges, events and information displays at Omana Park (Omana Road, Papatoetoe) from 10am-2pm. Children from eight local schools will be taking part in educational activities and members of the public are encouraged to come along.
More than 100 pedestrians and cyclists have been killed or seriously injured on Papatoetoe roads in the last five years. The LOOK OUT! campaign, part of the ongoing Safer Routes Programme in Papatoetoe, aims to do something about it.
The priorities are to encourage motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to look out for other road users. "It's a simple message, but a really important one," says project manager Angela James. "Far too many people, especially school children and elderly pedestrians, are being hurt or killed on the roads."
LOOK OUT! will run for two weeks from 4 November and Police will be monitoring vehicle speeds and implementing a speed enforcement campaign.
