Travel advice – changes on new Manukau
motorway
The NZ Transport Agency advises
that the westbound lanes of the new SH20-1 Manukau Extension
motorway are now open.
The best ways to get onto the
new SH20 motorway are via the Southern Motorway (SH1) at
Redoubt Road, Hill Road and Takanini on-ramps.
Roscommon
Road and Noel Burnside Road are very congested and there are
severe delays so please avoid the area. Access to the
motorway from Roscommon Road is closed.
To help avoid
queues the NZTA advises:
- Use Wiri Station Road and Lambie Drive to get onto the new motorway - If you’re heading to the airport on SH20, use George Bolt Memorial Drive (SH20A)
“This is the first week of the new road layout which will take some time to get used to. We’re encouraging people to plan ahead before they travel and to avoid using Roscommon Road in the morning peak,” says the NZTA’s Traffic Management Unit Manager Mark Walker.
People are also advised to check the NZTA website for advice on the changes or phone 0800 SH20-2-1 (0800 742 021).
The opening of the westbound lanes is the second stage of the new Manukau motorway opening. The changes will be place for three months until late December so that the final work on the new motorway can be completed.
The NZ Transport Agency thanks you for your patience during this essential work.
