Peka Peka to Otaki Expressway Important for Wellington
Construction of the Peka Peka to Otaki expressway must proceed as soon as possible the Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce has told the New Zealand Transport Agency which is currently consulting on proposed road.
“The Peka Peka to Otaki stretch of the Wellington Northern Corridor suffers from severe congestion at certain times which is impeding efficient movement of people and freight,” said Chamber CEO Ken Harris.
“The new road will improve travel times between Wellington and areas to the north - thus benefiting the region and the country as a whole.
“It will also assist the economic development of the Kapiti Coast district by enabling traffic to move more efficiently through the northern part of the district.
“The new road will provide businesses in the region with better access to Wellington and the north and vice versa. This in turn will bring new jobs and increased economic activity to the district.
“The Kapiti Coast is a natural growth area for increased business activity and its prosperity is very important for Wellington.
“The Peka Peka to Otaki expressway is a crucial part of the Wellington Northern Corridor. While debates about the route are inevitable, it is essential that the strategic importance of this road is not lost sight of and that construction proceeds as soon as possible,” Mr Harris concluded.
