21 Hours for Starship’s 21 Years
Starship is celebrating its 21st birthday this
year and to mark the occasion Specforce Fitness is
conducting a 21 Hour Circuit-athon to fundraise for the
Starship Foundation.
Individuals and teams can participate and raise money for the Starship Foundation by being sponsored to endure the vigorous physical exercise over two days, from May 10-11.
Specforce CEO Scott Cottier says every hour for 21 hours will be a new and totally different circuit: “Teams allocate individuals to the different classes and endure some type of hardship through the activities that give them a small taste of what many of the kids at Starship have to battle on a daily basis”.
Eva Mitchell is one of Starship’s longest staying patients, having lived at the national children’s hospital for almost five years. At birth, Eva was rushed to Intensive Care and doctors discovered she had a massive hole in her diaphragm which meant her internal organs were pushing up into her heart and lungs. Eva was not expected to survive and spent two weeks on life support.
“Our little trooper then surprised everyone by starting to breathe on her own,” says mum Tiffany Mitchell. “She has had more surgeries than I can remember but I’m so grateful to everyone at Starship; Eva wouldn’t be here without them!”
Specforce’s 21 Hour Circuit-athon begins at 7pm on 10 May at Specforce Fitness, 9 Karaka St, Eden Terrace, Auckland.
Social or elite teams can participate and there are prizes for teams with the most points and money raised, as well as spot prizes for those who display the highest morale and determination.
