Network summary for week ending 29 March 2015
Electricity
We were in close contact with emergency services when vegetation fires threatened power lines in South Auckland during the week. Our crews attended both of these incidents, in Flat Bush and Papakura. No damage was caused to any Vector assets.
Safety checks were carried out by our contractors at the site of a house fire in Henderson during the week. No fault was found on our network, and the customer was referred to a private electrician for further checks. Power was isolated to four house fires, in Kelston, Otahuhu, Clover Park and St Heliers during the week, and to a garage fire in Papatoetoe.
An emergency shutdown had to be carried out for emergency repairs in Swanson during the week, after a car v pole incident. A pole was replaced in Epsom after a car hit a pole there, and urgent repairs were carried out in Mangere and in Otahuhu after cars struck poles. Our crews made safe the site of a car v a council street light in East Tamaki during the week and this site was referred to the council.
Gas
Cases of third party damage saw our crews attend incidents in Remuera, Balmoral and Huapai during the week. All the necessary repairs were made.
No trace of gas was found after reports of gas odours in Manurewa during the week. Repairs to our network were carried out in Tauranga and St Heliers.
Projects
A new transformer room has been under construction at the Red Beach substation since October last year. Due for completion this week, improvements to the substation include the installation of a 20 MVA transformer. This new transformer will future-proof electricity supply to the area, and provide extra capacity for planned developments.
