Update on the Vodafone network following power cut in Gisborne
Mains power has been restored to the Gisborne region following the fatal light plane accident that impacted power supply. All Vodafone cell sites have now been restored to mains power.
All but two of the Vodafone cell sites in the broader Gisborne region have returned to full service. Vodafone mobile customers in the areas served by the Gisborne West and Hicks Bay cell sites may experience degraded 2G service at this point in time, all other services are fully restored. Our team is working to restore full service for these customers as a priority.
The Vodafone team will continue to actively monitor all sites in the region over the next few days. Battery back-ups are in place at all sites and are ready to switch back should there be an interruption to the power supply.
Vodafone has been advised a planned power outage may occur on Sunday. We still have generators at a number of sites as an alternative if required and are set to redeploy generators to sites, as required.
As residential and business customers come back on line, broadband services should be restored throughout the day. Our customer support teams are working closely with customers to reinstate broadband services. Customers are advised to reboot their modem and restart their computers in order to re-establish connections.
