Police seek information following firearms incident
Detective Sergeant Dave Wilson:
Palmerston North
Police are seeking information from the public following a
firearms incident outside a hotel on Rangitikei Street, near
King Street, on Sunday 3 December.
Our enquiries have
established that a number of shots were discharged at or
near a group of men outside the bar around 1am.
It was
sheer luck that no one was injured, and police are committed
to ensuring patrons can enjoy the central city especially
during the festive season.
Police responded and stopped a
group of men nearby, locating two .22 calibre firearms in
their vehicle, however we are satisfied that these are not
the same firearms that were discharged at the
hotel.
The five were arrested and charged with unlawful
possession of firearms and will appear in the Palmerston
North District Court this week.We are continuing to
investigate the incident near the hotel and are working to
identify those who were involved.
Police wish to hear
from anyone with information with regards to the discharge
of the shotgun and the persons responsible and urge them to
call 105 quoting file number
231203/5327.
