HANZ Sees Spectacular Membership Growth

Spectacular membership growth has contributed to two additional Regional Managers being added to the HANZ Team over the next few months

A recent external strategic review has confirmed the Hospitality Association is on the right track and September’s Board Meeting ratified changes which will keep the Association at the forefront of developing industry needs for the foreseeable future.

“Since 1995 we have grown from about 1000 members to our current 2250 members,” says Bruce Robertson chief executive of the Hospitality Association.

“Maintaining a high level of service requires additional resources so we are delighted that the Association’s Board has agreed to the proposal to increase the number of Regional Managers by two to take the total number of Regional Managers to eight.”

Bruce Robertson says the two additional Regional Managers will cover growing needs in both the North and South Islands.

He says that a recent survey clearly identified that member contact and service from Regional Managers is highly valued.

“Members obviously appreciate the nature of this personal service delivery from their locally based Regional Manager.”

“We have had a 122% membership increase over the past ten years, but in that time our Regional Manager numbers have increased by just one, and with a predicted rise of a further 25% in the next five years, it certainly is time for a change,” he said.

The other good news is that the beefed-up services to members will not require a subscription increase. There has not been a subscription increase for the past ten years.

The review has highlighted key achievements and areas for continued improvement.

Briefly, the recommendations contained in the report suggest:

• The appointment of two additional Regional Managers.

• Ongoing evaluation of the scope and range of services to members to ensure that expectations are met.

• A continued drive to develop new business areas to meet member’s needs.

To arrive at its conclusions, the review included interviews with a broad cross-section of Association’s staff and members including Board and Branch leaders. The review also benchmarked the Hospitality Association favourably with other associations to ensure that we are following industry best practices, concluded Bruce Robertson.
