Hutt Motorway: firearms incident

At approximately 3pm today a truck driving north along the Hutt Motorway had its window smashed by a projectile believed to have been fired from a handgun.

The truck, travelling along the motorway in the vicinity of Horokiwi, was undertaken by a white 1995 Toyota stationwagon with two male Caucasian occupants. The driver of this vehicle is understood to have fired on the truck with a black item described by witnesses as a handgun. The driver was unhurt in the incident and managed to stop his vehicle without endangering other motorists.

Following the incident the offending vehicle was seen driving into Horokiwi Road off the motorway. Police are currently searching all roads in that area for the vehicle and advise that there will be delays for those wishing to enter the Horokiwi area.
