Allied Telesyn Recruits 30 Top Graduates

Allied Telesyn Recruits 30 Top Graduates To Boost Product Innovation And Development

Christchurch New Zealand, 24-Feb-03. To meet evolving technology demand for world-class network innovation, global corporation Allied Telesyn has this month recruited 30 of New Zealand's best computer science and electrical engineering graduates. After an initial 4-week training programme the new recruits will be encouraged and supported to innovate and develop a career in Software Development and Systems Testing of world-class networking products.

An early recruitment drive last August has this month successfully attracted some of New Zealand's top graduates to Allied Telesyn's largest R&D facility in the world based in Christchurch.

Twenty-four of those selected recently graduated from Canterbury University, with the others recruited from Auckland, Lincoln and Victoria Universities.

Simon Lock, Software Manger at Allied Telesyn, credits this achievement to the company's commitment to education and strong relations with local Universities. "Our mission is to aggressively establish a leading presence in the global network service provider market. To do this we are investing heavily in R&D and we need innovative and clever people to help us develop and deliver high-end network technology products.

Allied Telesyn has undergone phenomenal growth in recent years in an effort to meet strong international market demand for its products. The company now has more than 240 employees working at the new Christchurch offices on Nazareth Avenue.

"We are at the leading edge for enterprise communications infrastructure equipment," says Mr Lock. "This is a very exciting area to work in with many opportunities to develop a satisfying and challenging career. As a global company working with leading technology, we provide world-class skills and experience for those with the inspiration and drive to make a real difference. Also, because we have grown so quickly, our flexibility enables us to give staff responsibility early in their career."

Allied Telesyn's new graduates are currently in their second week of the company's four-week graduate training program - an essential part of the organisational development that encourages graduates to develop and strengthen their technological innovation and skills.

The program teaches them about the development environment, the company's methodologies and tools, and how to write, develop and test Allied Telesyn's core networking technology. Tony van der Peet, Chief Technology Officer says that it is important to make the graduate feel that they can make a difference right from the start. "At the end of the training program we give people actual projects that they can work through and accomplish under supervision. Usually these projects take a short time to complete, about one or two days. This helps to get them started and gives them a real sense of achievement from the outset."

"Our strategy is to target the telecommunications market with popular enterprise networking solutions that are feature-rich, leading edge and multi-standard. We are a leader in our field, which is why we work hard to attract the very best graduates and staff," confirmed Scott Coles, Managing Director.

"What makes this company an attractive place to work is our excellent training, good support systems and a great environment in which to learn new skills and develop a challenging career."

Other popular attractions for staff are the company's indoor 23-metre heated swimming pool, gym and sauna. "With so much to offer it is little wonder that our staff turnover rate is way below the national average .We provide our people with the opportunity to develop a world-class career working with the very latest tools and technology. Graduates do not need to travel abroad to find the challenges they need to further their career. Once they start working for us and realise the personal advantages, they do not want to leave," said Mr Coles.
