GMF labelling decision only sensible solution
Today's decision on the labelling of genetically modified food is the right, and only workable, one, National Health spokesperson Wyatt Creech said today.
"A lot of work had been done by under National to work with Australia to come up with a workable mandatory labelling regime. We fought hard to have a mandatory regime, and to make certain the labelling of genetically modified food provided consumers with the information they needed.
"The decisions from Australian and New Zealand Ministers is just a continuation of that work.
"There has been a lot of concern and hysteria around labelling of genetically modified food.
"Before the election we all agreed there needed to be a mandatory regime. Unfortunately Labour, the Alliance and the Greens took a simplistic view of the logistical problems that needed to be overcome.
"I am pleased the Government has seen now sense and agreed to a workable labelling regime."
