Taxpayers Fund Greens' Pot Campaign
New Zealand First wants to know why the Greens are using taxpayers’ money to promote the use of cannabis.
Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters said today that the Greens are seeking a Cannabis Law Reform Coordinator as part of their policy of making marijuana freely available to everyone.
“This is a serious misuse of public money. Why should taxpayers’ money be spent promoting the use of an illegal drug?
“The Greens want immediate legislation to cover possession of cannabis for personal use and appear to also want taxpayers to fund their campaign.”
Mr Peters said that the Greens did not tell voters before the election that they wanted to use public money to mount campaigns to promote drug use.
“New Zealanders are already paying the salary of a marijuana-promoting MP. Surely that is more than enough of an outlay on this nonsense,” he said.
