Ex offender's guilty verdict vindication for victims

ex offender's guilty verdict vindication for victims

Eastern Waikato Police hope the conviction of a man in relation to sexual assaults against children will send a clear message that Police view such complaints very seriously.

Detective Simon Everson of the Waihi CIB said the 45-year-old man was found guilty on a variety of charges related to sexual offending against three young boys in the Hauraki area between 2003 and 2010.

"Appearing in the Tauranga District Court yesterday the offender admitted six charges of sexual connection with a young person and he was convicted on further charges of indecent assault on a young person, sexual conduct with a young person and wilful ill treatment of a child.

"The offender had been a caregiver to one of his victims and the others had been visitors at his address on a regular basis and his offending was a serious breach of the trust he was held in. We hope this result will encourage other persons who have been the victim of sexual abuse to have the confidence to come forward to Police."

Remanded in custody the man will appear in the Hamilton District Court on 27 September for sentencing.
