Female dies on train track

At about 8pm on Monday 13th August a female has been struck and killed by a train near Allardice Street, Dannevirke.

The deceased is a 52 year old female who had recently moved to the Dannevirke area. Attempts are still being made to identify and locate any next of kin. Her name will be released when this has been completed.

The deceased was lying on the railway line when the train passed.

A post mortem will be carried out on Wednesday to establish the exact cause of death however it appears that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

The matter has been referred to the coroner.
