Self Provisioning Software Hit with NZ Corporates

‘Activate’ Self Provisioning Software Proves a Hit with NZ Corporates

Press release, 11-Oct-06, Activate Technologies, Auckland, New Zealand: Activate Technologies is commercialising a new and fundamental enterprise software solution designed to address the business impact of costly inefficiencies and lapses within IT systems and processes.

Developed, trialled and enhanced in New Zealand over the last 3 years, Activate self-provisioning software is already returning significant systems management and IT help desk cost-savings for some of NZ’s leading corporates including: Auckland District Health Board, Air New Zealand and Works Infrastructure NZ. The new software is also gaining international ground with implementations about to commence for two large multi-national organisations.

Managing the overwhelming demand for IT support is a major headache for most large organisations in NZ and around the world. This is because as much as 70% of IT support time is spent processing everyday manual administration, such as setting up new users, provisioning new hardware or software, and dealing with numerous requests for password resets, management of distribution lists and directories.

Activate dramatically reduces these costs and allows valuable IT resources to be re-deployed to higher-value projects by automating and delegating the common IT tasks to business users.

This innovative software is the brainchild of Shaun Blackmore who developed the initial version of Activate while working as an independent IT consultant on high level EDS and Microsoft projects.

“An alarming proportion of most organisations’IT resource it is wasted on manual processes with staff forever clicking this and requesting that. Roughly half of that administration workload could and should be delegated to the user,” says Blackmore. “Activate works by placing control back to the user and reducing demand on already stretched IT support. The software is intuitive, easy to use, and flexible enough to accommodate changes in most dynamic organisation environments.”

Customers using Activate have noticed immediate bottom line savings just by cutting out the time wasted through having to deal with routine IT administration requests. For example, the Auckland District Health Board was able to reduce new user provisioning down from 10 days to just 1 within a couple of weeks of implementing their Activate solution. They also freed up the equivalent of one full-time second level support person and reduced overall service delivery time to the organisation.

ADHB Networks Manager John Irving confirms that Activate has improved information system (IS) services in an ICT environment that serves 11,000 users daily, across 23 different sites.

He says, “Before Activate we were being bogged down by simple provisioning tasks, such as setting up new users and fulfilling password change requests. The turnaround time was reducing productivity across the organisation and inhibiting our ability to forge ahead with other projects. For the cost of what we were quoted for other identity and access management products, Activate has delivered 80% of the benefits at 10% of the cost, time and energy to implement.”

Activate’s modular design is unique to the self-provisioning market and enables CIO’s to manage and automate IT administration task across the enterprise intuitively and without complex and costly implementation. The software provides an optimum balance of power, flexibility and functionality, as well as enhanced security and compliance, improved auditing and reporting of user activity, and a rapid return on investment.

Activate's modular approach enables businesses to implement functions as and when they require. The functions currently available include:-

- User Provisioning and De-provisioning
- Password Management and Self Password Reset
- Email Distribution List Management
- Folder Access and Control Management
- Corporate Directory / Phone List
- Services Management (Software, Hardware, etc)

Activate also comes in three language options: English, Portuguese and Spanish.

About Activate Technologies (www.activatelive.com)

Activate Technologies Ltd, established in May 2006, has developed a modular software application called ‘Activate’ that automates and delegates to business users common computer tasks which would normally require help desk support – such as setting up new users, provisioning new hardware or software, password resets, and management of group lists and directories.

By allowing users to request and approve IT services online Activate enables CIOs to reduce helpdesk and IT department workload, improve user satisfaction and achieve a rapid ROI.

Activate is a proven product already implemented within large organisations such as Air New Zealand, Works Infrastructure and The Auckland District Health Board. The software, which is built on a Microsoft platform, yields the greatest ROI with the lower organisational impact and time to implement.
