CTC Aviation offers $40,000 in financial assistance and job opportunities for pilot instructor trainees

Hamilton, New Zealand - Airline pilot training organisation CTC Aviation has launched a new training programme which it hopes will secure a steady influx of flight instructors required for training its airline pilots in New Zealand.

The company said it is incentivising aspiring flight instructors with: a $40,000 contribution towards the cost of its new CTC WINGS NZ Flight Instructor programme; a conditional offer of employment for successful graduates with the company at the end of the training; and a coveted Diploma in Aviation.

After the 20-month programme, which is run out of CTC Aviation’s Hamilton Crew Training Centre, successful graduates will hold a Commercial Pilot Licence with a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating, a C Category Instructor Rating, and the New Zealand Diploma in Aviation (Aeroplane) (Flight Instructor Level 6) qualifications.

The Flight Instructor course gives trainees the required flying hours and experience they need to go on to become an airline pilot if they choose.

CTC Aviation’s Managing Director, Peter Stockwell, said experienced flight instructors were highly sought after in New Zealand and demand for them was out-stripping their availability.

“Our qualified instructors get snapped up quickly by the airlines so we created this new diploma programme as a way to support the New Zealand aviation industry, and also future-proof our own instructor team,” he explained.

“Going from instructor to airline pilot is a recognised pathway in the aviation industry, and many of our former instructors are now flying with major airlines, including Air New Zealand and Jetstar. Progressing or starting an aviation career as part of our instructor team is a fantastic opportunity and we are proud to have supported a large number of pilots into their careers.”

In addition to enabling successful graduates to secure a job with the company at the end of training, CTC’s $40,000 incentive reduces the total price of the diploma programme to $96,000. Trainees may be able to access $70,000 in student loans, leaving $26,000 to self-fund.

CTC Aviation Flight Instructor, Emma-Jane Lacy, who is originally from Pukekohe, encourages Kiwis to take advantage of this new opportunity on offer.

“From day one of starting my training with CTC Aviation, I knew I wanted to become an instructor upon completion. Following completion of my Instructor course, I started working at the Hamilton Crew Training Centre.

“The daily highlight of my job would have to be passing on the knowledge from my own training and experience to the cadets and seeing them succeed,” says Emma-Jane.

In New Zealand, CTC Aviation currently employs 65 flight instructors to train around 300 cadet airline pilots each year through its CTC WINGS and Partner Airline training programmes. Instructor salaries range from $32,000-$50,000 per year. CTC Aviation also provides all its instructors with free, ongoing training while in its employment.
