NZ’s First 100 Mile Mountain Bike Event
NZ’s First 100 Mile Mountain Bike Event
To celebrate
Contact Epic’s 10th year anniversary a new distance will
be added to the mix. The Centurion is NZ’s first single
day 100 mile mountain biking race and will take in all the
terrain of the other Epic, Classic and Traverse legs. It is
a ride that incorporates all the best scenery that the Epic
and Central Otago is famous for.
Beginning slightly earlier, the riders will complete the 35km Traverse course along the Hawea and Clutha Rivers before joining the mass circumnavigating Lake Hawea and finishing inside the Hawea Hotel garden bar.
With a growing following of 100 mile events in Australia and the US, it was only a matter of time before New Zealand introduced one onto the event calendar. Considered by many as the test piece for endurance riders this will provide another challenge for those who have already knocked off the Contact Epic 125km leg.
The Contact Epic’s reputation as being one of the country’s most scenic, challenging and well run events makes it the ideal event to house the 160km challenge.
“The Contact Epic has attracted endurance riders and those with a sense of adventure for 9 years now. Those loyal to the event have been calling for a new challenge, something they can really test themselves on,” said race director Danielle Nicholson. “The remote location adds something of a significant mental challenge to the already physical one. So for those ready to step up and join NZs’ first 100 mile club, the Contact Epic 2017 is the place to be!”
Entries are now open for the Centurion, along with the 125km Epic, 95km Classic and 35km Traverse on line at www.contactepic.co.nz . Entries close on March 31.
