NZ First Gives Electoral Integrity Bill Real Teeth
New Zealand First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, is calling for the Electoral Integrity Bill, with the New Zealand First authored amendments being tabled today, to be given priority in the Government’s legislative agenda.
“The amendments that New Zealand First put forward have given the Bill real teeth and ensure that the proportionality of the vote on election day is respected for the following 3 years. The practice of corrupt dealing with MPs that National involved itself in between 1998 and 1999 will cease,” said Mr Peters.
“We have seen an unprecedented demand for action over MMP in the last few years. The overwhelming vote in favour of lowering the number of MPs is evidence of this. It is vital that this government must now act quicker than it is currently in implementing this bill, with the changes we are proposing,”concluded Mr Peters.
