Northern Residential Centre needs urgent attention
PSA members working at the Northern Residential Centre in Weymouth are becoming increasingly concerned for their safety due in large part to inadequate staffing at the Centre, PSA national secretary Richard Wagstaff said today.
“The incident which occurred at NRC this week is indicative of the vulnerability of our members who are working in what we consider to be unsafe conditions. PSA has requested the Child Youth and Family Service to attend urgently to serious issues at the Centre to ensure the safety of our members.”
Richard Wagstaff said the issues raised with Child Youth and Family included inconsistent staffing; inadequate staffing numbers; inadequate safety equipment; lack of training, and insufficient support systems.
“PSA is aware that Child Youth and Family is trying to operate with inadequate funding and resources. We cannot, however, allow our members to continue trying to work in an environment where their safety is threatened.”
Richard Wagstaff said he hoped Child Youth
and Family and PSA would be able to sit down and work
through the issues
together.
