School Kids Get Civil Defence Practice
May 16, 2002
Emergency services will be called out to
Tamaki Primary School tomorrow (Friday), as part of a civil
defence day.
The day is being organised by the Auckland City Civil Defence and Emergency Management team, and aims to teach parents, teachers and students what to do in an emergency situation.
Fire, police, coast guard, ambulance and the Red Cross will provide education and practical instruction.
A mock emergency situation will give the students a chance to try out what they have learnt throughout the day.
“I heartily applaud the initiative of the council, emergency services and Tamaki Primary School in thinking about civil defence and its importance in our daily lives,” says Auckland City Councillor Bill Christian.
“You never know when an emergency may happen, and it’s essential we are all prepared.”
Morning tea is provided and a sausage sizzle has been organised to raise funds for the school.
