A Star Is Born – Freedom Air Fred Comes To Life

Freedom Air is to tomorrow unveil its larger than life character, Fred, for his first public appearance. Fred, who has featured in Freedom Air advertising for the last couple of years, is now touching down in Christchurch to help the airline launch its sponsorship support for the New Zealand women’s basketball team.

Fred is the official mascot for the Freedom Air Series, featuring the EziBuy Tall Ferns in world qualifying championship games against Australia. The Freedom Air Series is a best of three series, with games played in Christchurch and Invercargill between September 14-16.

Fred, short for Freedom Air, is the fun, friendly personality of the airline. Fred is very yellow and naked! Comfortable with his own tubby body image, he enjoys a sense of freedom au natural. He loves meeting new friends and likes to poke fun at pretensions.

Rachel Gardiner, Freedom Air sales & marketing manager says Fred is a delight. “Fred is a real character. He’s friendly, approachable and has a huge grin,” she says. He will make guest appearances for the basketball games and will also be helping us out when we have announcements and special events.”

Fred will be onsite at an EziBuy Tall Ferns and media basketball game at Christchurch’s Cowles Stadium at 1.30pm tomorrow, followed by a media conference at the stadium at 3pm.

Freedom Air started operating as a trans-Tasman carrier in November 1995, offering value-based services. Over the years, it has refined its no-frills service to continually pass savings on to customers. For online bookings, go to www.freedomair.com.
